12-Day Kenya & Uganda Wildlife Circuit
December 4, 2025Kenya and Uganda Family Safari
A Storytelling Itinerary for Families Who Want Adventure, Connection & Wonder
African safaris are often described as “once in a lifetime,” but a family safari done right is far more than that. It becomes a shared memory bond that lasts forever. A story parents and children will tell for decades. A chance for generations to reconnect with nature, heritage, and each other.
The 10-Day Kenya & Uganda Family Safari Circuit by Otter African Safaris is designed to deliver exactly that. Imagine your family tracking lions on the Maasai Mara plains at sunrise, watching giraffes walk past your breakfast table… floating over the savannah in a hot air balloon and finally trekking into Uganda’s misty jungles to come face-to-face with wild mountain gorillas.
This is more than a holiday. This is the journey that reshapes how your family sees the world.
DAY-BY-DAY STORYTELLING ITINERARY
DAY 1 NAIROBI ARRIVAL
Where your family adventure truly begins. You land in Nairobi, East Africa’s energetic safari capital. A warm Otter African Safaris representative greets your family with smiles, cold drinks, and a gentle introduction to the next 10 days of magic. Children get small safari welcome packs (animal checklist, Kenya–Uganda map). Parents get a moment to breathe: You’re finally here. After check-in at your family-friendly lodge, enjoy a relaxed evening overlooking acacia trees and city lights. Sleep early, your adventure starts at sunrise.
DAY 2 GIRAFFE MANOR EXPERIENCE & DAVID SHELDRICK ORPHANAGE
Up-close magic with Africa’s gentle giants. This morning, giraffes poke their long necks through the breakfast windows, a moment children will replay again and again. Feed them pellets, feel their soft tongues, and laugh as they wander between tables. At the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, your family meets rescued baby elephants and learns their stories. Kids love this part, many leave with a “foster elephant” they can support for years. Evening flight to the Maasai Mara. Dinner under the stars.
DAY 3 MAASAI MARA GAME DRIVE & MAASAI CULTURE
Your family enters the kingdom of the lion. The sun rises over golden plains. Your vehicle rolls slowly, the cool air brushing your faces. A lion pride appears, cubs tumbling over each other. A cheetah scans the horizon. Elephants march in a protective circle around their babies. Your guide, patient, warm, deeply knowledgeable, explains animal behaviour in simple terms that everyone understands. This is learning outside of classrooms. In the afternoon, visit a Maasai village. Beadwork. Spears. Songs. Stories. A culture children will never forget.
DAY 4 HOT AIR BALLOON SAFARI & PICNIC BREAKFAST
A moment your family will talk about forever. Before dawn, your balloon inflates. Slowly, you rise above the savannah. From above, herds of wildebeest look like ants moving in formation. Giraffes stride beneath you like dancers. When you land, a champagne-and-hot-chocolate breakfast awaits. This is the magic of the Mara shared as a family. Evening relaxation at the lodge with a bonfire and stargazing.
DAY 5 FLY TO ENTEBBE, UGANDA | SUNSET OVER LAKE VICTORIA
From the savannah to the Pearl of Africa. Cross the border by air and land in Entebbe, where Uganda’s lush landscapes greet you. Your lodge sits on the shores of Lake Victoria, perfect for children to unwind and parents to enjoy a slow evening after days of adventure. Watch fishermen paddle home as the sky turns orange. East Africa has many sunsets, but Uganda’s might be the most beautiful.
DAY 6 – MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK
Where the Nile explodes through a narrow gorge. Drive to Murchison Falls NP, Uganda’s largest park. Your family will see wildlife different from Kenya:
- Rothschild giraffes.
- Savannah elephants.
- Jackson’s hartebeest.
- Warthogs (kids love these!).
- Uganda kob.
On a boat cruise, the Nile carries you past crocodiles, hippos, and birds until you reach the thunder of Murchison Falls, a waterfall so powerful you feel its mist from meters away. This is nature’s raw strength. Children stare in awe. Parents too.
DAY 7 ZIWA RHINO SANCTUARY & TRANSFER TO FORT PORTAL
Walking with rhinos is an unforgettable moment. Before leaving, your family gets the chance to track wild rhinos on foot with professional rangers. It’s safe, educational, and thrilling. You then continue to Fort Portal, Uganda’s cleanest town, surrounded by crater lakes and rolling hills. A quiet evening at the lodge prepares your family for tomorrow’s big adventure.
DAY 8 CHIMPANZEE TREKKING IN KIBALE FOREST
A playful, emotional rainforest experience. In the morning, your family enters a rainforest alive with hoots, echoes, and rustling leaves. Then suddenly, there they are. Chimpanzees playing, Grooming. Swinging through trees like acrobats. Kids connect instantly with their expressions. Parents feel humbled by their intelligence. Later, walk through the Bigodi swamp with local guides, seeing monkeys, birds, and villagers going about their day.
DAY 9 TRANSFER TO BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST
Into the home of the mountain gorillas. A short flight takes you to Bwindi, one of the last sanctuaries of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. The air is cooler, fresher. Clouds cling to emerald hills. In the evening, your guide briefs you on tomorrow’s trek, an experience that families often describe as life-changing.
DAY 10 GORILLA TREKKING | FAREWELL DINNER & FAMILY CELEBRATION
A moment that transforms every heart. The trek begins early. You walk through a thick jungle, following trackers. And then silence. A rustle. A heartbeat moment. You come face-to-face with a silverback gorilla. His eyes meet yours. Peaceful. Intelligent. Curious. Children whisper. Parents tear up. It is overwhelmingly emotional. This is the soul of Africa. And now, part of your family’s story.
That evening, celebrate with a farewell dinner overlooking Bwindi’s mountains. Your family has completed one of Africa’s greatest safari circuits.
