Day 2: Kampala to Kibale Forest Into the Realm of the Primates

After breakfast, your safari vehicle heads west through Uganda’s lush countryside, passing terraced hillsides, banana plantations, and villages that feel untouched by time. By afternoon, you arrive at Kibale National Park, home to the largest population of chimpanzees in East Africa and a staggering 13 primate species. Check into your forest lodge as the canopy erupts with birdsong overhead.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Face to Face with Our Closest Cousins

This is a morning you will never forget. Rising before dawn, you join your expert ranger guide deep into the misty Kibale Forest on a chimpanzee tracking experience. Kibale’s chimps are habituated to human presence, meaning you get genuinely intimate encounters watching them groom, play, swing through the canopy and vocalise in that spine-tingling call-and-response that echoes for miles. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bwindi shelters roughly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, making it the single most important conservation site for this critically endangered species.

Day 9: Kigali Genocide Memorial & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After lunch, transfer northwest to Ruhengeri (Musanze), gateway to Volcanoes National Park, the original home of gorilla research pioneer Dian Fossey. Check into your luxury lodge in the shadow of the Virunga volcanoes.

Day 10: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park Dian Fossey’s Legacy Lives On

Day 11: Golden Monkey Trekking & Cultural Experience

This morning, trek into bamboo forests in search of the golden monkey, one of Africa’s rarest and most enchanting primates, found only in this high-altitude volcanic zone. Playful, quick, and brilliantly coloured, these monkeys are a photographer’s delight.

Day 12: Return to Kigali, Farewell to East Africa
