Walk in the Footsteps of Giants
Embark on an unforgettable 14-day Elephant Trails Expedition with Otter African Safaris, where the ancient paths of Africa’s largest land mammals lead you across two of the continent’s most iconic safari destinations, Kenya and Tanzania. This immersive safari adventure takes you through world-renowned parks such as Amboseli, Tsavo, Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Crater, tracing the same migratory routes elephants have used for generations.
It’s not just a safari, it’s a journey of connection, conservation, and awe-inspiring encounters.
Best Time to Go
The Elephant Trails Expedition is an all-year-round safari, but the experience is most magical during the dry seasons when wildlife viewing is at its peak.
- January – March: Ideal for clear skies and newborn wildlife sightings.
- June – October: The prime dry season, elephants gather around water sources, and the Great Migration crosses the Serengeti plains.
- November – December: Short rains transform the landscapes into lush, green scenery, perfect for photographers and nature enthusiasts.
Whichever season you choose, Otter African Safaris ensures each journey is tailored to showcase the best of East Africa’s wildlife and landscapes.
Safari Highlights
Day 1–2: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park (Kenya)
Start your journey in Kenya’s capital, then drive to Amboseli, the “Land of Giants,” where herds of elephants roam beneath the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro. Capture iconic photos and visit local Maasai communities to understand how people and elephants coexist.
Day 3–4: Tsavo National Park (East & West)
Explore Kenya’s largest conservation area, home to the legendary “red elephants” of Tsavo. Enjoy game drives across sweeping savannahs and relax in lodges overlooking ancient lava flows and rivers teeming with life.
Day 5–6: Cross into Tanzania – Arusha & Tarangire National Park
Enter Tanzania through the Namanga border and rest in Arusha, the safari capital. Then, head to Tarangire, a park known for its massive elephant herds, baobab trees, and untamed wilderness.
Day 7–9: Serengeti National Park
No safari compares to the Serengeti, where endless plains stretch beyond the horizon. Witness the Great Migration (seasonal), predators in action, and the timeless rhythms of the wild. Your days will be filled with early morning game drives and sundowners overlooking golden grasslands.
Day 10–11: Ngorongoro Crater
Descend 600 meters into the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, a natural sanctuary for elephants, lions, rhinos, and flamingos. The Ngorongoro Crater is often called “Africa’s Eden” for good reason.
Day 12–13: Lake Manyara National Park
Famous for its tree-climbing lions and birdlife, Lake Manyara offers a peaceful contrast to the vast savannahs. Enjoy canoeing (seasonal), nature walks, and cultural visits to nearby villages.
Day 14: Return to Arusha / Departure
End your adventure with a relaxing breakfast overlooking Mount Meru before your transfer back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport.
