15-Day Uganda & Tanzania Wellness and Wildlife Safari
March 9, 2026Uganda & Rwanda Culture and Wildlife Safari
Some safaris show you wildlife. Others show you landscapes. This journey does something deeper; it immerses you in the living heartbeat of East Africa.
The 14-Day Uganda and Rwanda Culture and Wildlife Safari by Otter African Safaris is designed for travellers who want more than game drives. It is a story of people, forests, mountains, rare wildlife, and cultures that have shaped Africa for centuries. Over two unforgettable weeks, you will explore ancient rainforests, track mountain gorillas, cruise along wildlife-rich rivers, meet vibrant communities, and discover the natural wonders that make Uganda and Rwanda among Africa’s most rewarding destinations.
Below is the journey that awaits you.
Day 1: Arrival in Uganda – Welcome to the Pearl of Africa
Your adventure begins in Entebbe. Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, our Otter African Safaris team welcomes you and transfers you to your hotel overlooking the shores of Lake Victoria.
This first evening is about slowing down and absorbing the atmosphere. The warm tropical air, the distant sounds of the city, and the anticipation of the journey ahead mark the beginning of your East African story.
Day 2: Journey to Murchison Falls National Park
The safari truly begins as we drive north toward Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and most diverse protected area.
Along the way, you stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where you will track endangered white rhinos on foot with expert rangers, the only place in Uganda where rhinos roam in the wild.
By evening, you arrive in Murchison Falls National Park, where the Nile River cuts dramatically through ancient landscapes.
Day 3: Wildlife Safari & Nile River Cruise
Wake before sunrise for your first classic African game drive.
The savannah plains reveal elephants moving through the mist, giraffes browsing acacia trees, lions scanning the grasslands, and large herds of Uganda kob grazing across the golden landscape.
In the afternoon, you board a boat cruise along the Nile River toward the powerful Murchison Falls. Crocodiles bask on riverbanks, hippos crowd the water channels, and colourful birds fill the skies.
The boat stops at the base of the thunderous waterfall, one of Africa’s most dramatic natural spectacles.
Day 4: Top of the Falls & Journey South
Before departing the park, you visit the top of Murchison Falls, where the Nile squeezes through a narrow 7-meter gorge and explodes down with immense power.
From here, the journey continues south toward western Uganda, passing through rolling countryside, tea plantations, and rural villages that offer glimpses into everyday Ugandan life.
Day 5: Kibale Forest – The Primate Capital of the World
Your destination today is Kibale Forest National Park, home to the highest density of primates in Africa.
This ancient rainforest shelters chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and a remarkable diversity of birds.
The afternoon allows time to relax at the lodge or explore nearby crater lakes surrounded by lush forest.
Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking Experience
Today, you enter the rainforest in search of one of humanity’s closest relatives.
With experienced trackers guiding the way, you hike through dense jungle listening for the echoes of chimpanzee calls. When you find them, you witness remarkable behaviour, grooming, feeding, playing, and communicating within their complex social groups.
It is a raw, powerful wildlife encounter that few travellers ever forget.
Day 7: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Your safari continues south into Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its stunning diversity of ecosystems. Here, savannah plains, crater lakes, wetlands, and forests combine to support incredible wildlife populations.
An evening game drive introduces you to elephants, buffalo, antelope, and possibly lions preparing for the night hunt.
Day 8: Kazinga Channel Boat Safari
One of the highlights of the entire journey happens today, the Kazinga Channel boat safari.
This natural waterway connects Lake Edward and Lake George and hosts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. Hippos crowd the water, elephants gather along the shorelines, and hundreds of bird species thrive in this rich ecosystem.
Photographers especially love this part of the safari because the wildlife is incredibly close.
Day 9: Ishasha Tree-Climbing Lions & Transfer to Bwindi
The adventure continues to the Ishasha sector of the park, famous for its rare tree-climbing lions.
Seeing these powerful predators resting on fig tree branches is a rare sight found in only a few places in Africa.
From here, the landscape transforms as you travel toward the mountainous forests of Bwindi, home of the endangered mountain gorilla.
Day 10: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest
This is the moment many travellers dream about.
Early in the morning, you enter Bwindi Impenetrable Forest with experienced trackers and rangers. The trek may take several hours through steep jungle terrain, but the reward is extraordinary.
Standing just meters away from a family of wild mountain gorillas is one of the most emotional wildlife experiences on Earth. Watching a silverback protect his family, juveniles playing, and mothers nurturing their infants creates a profound connection to nature.
You spend one magical hour with the gorillas before returning to the lodge.
Day 11: Lake Bunyonyi – Relaxation in the Highlands
After the intensity of gorilla trekking, the journey slows down at Lake Bunyonyi, one of Africa’s most beautiful lakes.
Surrounded by terraced hills and dotted with small islands, it is the perfect place to relax. Canoeing, birdwatching, and cultural village walks offer a peaceful change of pace.
Day 12: Cross Into Rwanda – Cultural Discovery
Today, you cross the border into Rwanda, often called the “Land of a Thousand Hills.”
The landscapes here are breathtaking, endless green mountains, terraced farms, and welcoming communities.
You travel toward Kigali, Rwanda’s clean and vibrant capital city.
Day 13: Kigali City & Cultural Experiences
Kigali offers powerful cultural insights and a modern African city experience.
Highlights include visits to local craft markets, cultural centres, and historical sites that tell Rwanda’s story of resilience and transformation.
Travellers often leave Kigali deeply moved by its history and inspired by its progress.
Day 14: Departure or Extension
Your safari concludes with a transfer to Kigali International Airport.
But by this point, most travelers realize something important: East Africa has a way of staying with you long after the journey ends.
